The community of New Memphis is located in Clinton County in Illinois and can be found almost 10 miles east of Mascoutah. It enjoys good transport links being near the junction of Illinois Route 160 and Illinois Route 177. In the late part of the 19th century the town held race meetings, although records are patchy on the detail of when racing began and ended. |
I am grateful to Vinny Hinde for the very rare Lady's race ticket issued by the New Memphis Jockey Club for their 1891 Spring Meeting which is shown below.
